The Masked Figure
Summary
An unnamed figure that appears to Cassian in his dreams. It wears a trimmed gown and regalia and a mask that conceals nearly its entire face, revealing only mischievous eyes. It speaks with intelligence, amusement, and a preference for long-term loyalties over coin. It gifted Cassian his magical dice in a prior dream—the same dice that trails a burgundy light when rolled. Current Status
Active. A deal was struck with Cassian during the long rest before the first Proving Grounds bout. The figure’s identity and true nature are unknown. Source: 2026.05.19.
The Deal (struck 2026.05.19)
Cassian’s obligations:
- Continue stirring trouble among the noble houses.
- Keep the party together through the tournament.
- Keep Odine Dunmere close: “I find her interesting and relevant; don’t let her out of your sight.”
The Masked Figure’s obligations:
- Pull strings to remove “immovable roadblocks” in the tournament—named as Ser Calder Ross (House Wulfhelm’s champion) and House Godran’s champion.
- Find the answer to how Cassian’s family acquired the dice and deliver it before the final bout.

Notes
- The figure called Cassian “clever boy” and said: “I don’t like to trade in gloria coin. I prefer loyalties—skills ones that cannot be bought.”
- It framed the arrangement as a “partnership” rather than an employer/employee relationship.
- It expressed interest in both Cassian’s party and specifically in Odine; it found the presence of two tieflings together “interesting.”
- It does not know how Cassian’s family acquired the dice—this is a genuine mystery to it as well.
- Dream appearances take place in mundane locations (the Ragged Flagon); whether this is Cassian’s subconscious or a true visitation is unknown.
Relationships
- Cassian: The primary contact. It gifted him his dice and has appeared in at least two separate dreams.
- Odine Dunmere: The figure considers her “interesting and relevant” for unknown reasons.
